Ingredients
- KAHLUA BARBECUE SAUCE:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 3 tablespoons Kahlua (coffee liqueur)
- 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- BURGERS:
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 6 slices pepper jack cheese
- 6 hamburger buns, split and toasted
- 1 can (6 ounces) French-fried onions
- 12 cooked bacon strips
- Optional toppings: Lettuce leaves, sliced tomato and dill pickles
Method
- In a small saucepan, stir together the ketchup, honey, Kahlua, apple cider vinegar, instant coffee granules, Worcestershire sauce and salt. Heat them through until the instant coffee is dissolved and the flavors have combined.
- Meanwhile, in a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef and garlic salt. Mix them together lightly but thoroughly. Shape the mixture into six 3/4-inch-thick patties.
- In a large nonstick skillet, cook the burgers over medium heat for six to eight minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160°F, adding the pepper jack cheese during the last minute of cooking so it has a chance to melt.
- Serve the patties on the hamburger buns with the Kahlua barbecue sauce, bacon, French-fried onions and toppings as desired.
